Stud farm – buildings and site master planning

Normandy

The project consists of transforming a 100 hectare abandonned dairy farm into a state of the art private stud farm for breeding english thoroughbred racehorses. The overiding imperative of the design is the health and safety of the breeding stock. An innovative approach to Barn design integrating the latest techniques in eco-friendly construction and energy usewere used to ensure these objectives are met.The ‘from scratch’ project allowed for a fresh approach to every aspect of horse breeding facilities. Starting from a detailed analysis of the existing site a number of detailed studies were carried out:

Development of client brief

Research on horse health and wellbeing

Flow charting breeding cycle

Eco-design – enhancement of natural biotopes.

Agricultural renovation Restoring typical Normandy landscape and building heritage

Natural ventilation in agricultural buildings

 

Followed by the main missions:

Design of circulation infrastructure and service network

Building design: Barns, Arenas, Admin buildings, Feedstorage, Veterinary facilities.

Site landscaping Renovation of existing buildings
