Parks to potdamer platz

Two parks to potdamer platz

Berlin
INTERNATIONAL URBAN PLANNING COMPETITION – LANDSCAPE

The brief required the development of two urban parks with separate functions and identities. In order to maintain acontinuity with the existing Berlin green spaces the following themes and design principals were applied to each of the parks:

– protection of existing historic axis and views

– a uniformity of organisation for each park to give generous open spaces

– creation of wide promenades

– dense and homogenous planting to park and street edges to reinforce their urban quality

Prachtgleis:

The park is planted throughout on a regular grid with Oaktrees creating an Urban Forest. At ground level the park isdivided in to two zones; one, planted space, assuring the flow of green through the city’s tissue; the other hardlandscaped in a wide promenade with play and rest areas.

Kemperpark:

A triangular park, an island refuge amidst the city. A park of small gardens each with a colour based theme. It makes reference to the labyrinth of Baroque parks..
