The Perret tower, which dominates the town centre of Amiens, was built as a post war experiment in high-rise reinforced concrete construction. Generally viewed as an eyesore by the local community a competition was organised to change the image of the tower. Inaccessible to the public for safety reasons the tower gives a magnificent view over the city. The project brings the view to the public. A light weight structure, at the foot of the tower, houses a virtual ‘belvedere’. Using the latest technique in 3 dimensional virtual imagery the view from cameras on the tower are projected apparently below the viewer. The city turns slowly with the day. A contemporary ‘Camera-Obscura’.
