Helioflore

Helioflore

Technical assistance to artist Shigeko HIRAKAWA

Marseille

The work is commissioned to celebrate the international year of the chemical industry. It is to be installed in the Place Villeneuve Bargemon in Marseille. The medium and method of construction is unusual for the artist who generally works with lighter more ephemeral materials integrated into the natural environment. Constructed in sheet metal and steel profiles in the form of agiant flower the ‘hélioflore’, which integrates 6 photovoltaic panels in it’s petals, is capable of storing the energy of the sun’s light during the day and re-emitting it in the form of light at night via the luminous polycarbonate dome at it’s heart. The dome is litby a network of diodes.
