The model of a bio climatic house was commissioned for the \u2018energy\u2019 section of the Arts and Crafts Museum. Based on a prototype house design integrating 10 of the fundamental principals of passive heating and cooling, the model is used as an educational tool. A computer with a tactile display explains the functioning of the house by way of a user-animated sequence of thematic screens. Fibre optics indicate the appropriate element of the house.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

WINTER<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Very low and often absent, each ray of sunshine is precious. The design of the facade lets the sun\u2019s heat and light penetrate deep into the house. As soon as night falls the insulated shutters close <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

EQUINOX<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Spring and autumn. The solar collectors and thermal inertia of the house soften out the sharp contrasts between day and night time temperatures as well as between sunny and overcast days.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

SUMMER<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

High sun and long days. Leafy trees and sunshades protect the house.The natural ventilation is increased. The earth becomes a reservoir of coolness. The electricity from the solar cells is abundant<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
